Pie Bar's Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 Regular Pie Dough, rolled out
  • ¼ c caramel sauce
  • pinch sea salt
  • Filling
  • 6 c Granny Smith apples
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 t ground cinnamon
  • ½ t ground nutmeg
  • 3 T all purpose flour
  • Streusel Topping
  • 1 C all purpose flour
  • 4 T sugar
  • 3 T light brown sugar
  • ⅛ t kosher salt
  • 6 T cold unsalted butter

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400°.

Prepare filling: peel, core and slice apples in ¼ inch thick pieces and place in large bowl. Combine sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour in small bowl. Power small bowl into large over the apples. Mix with hands.

Prepare streusel: To a food processor, add flour, sugar, brown sugar, salt, and butter. Quickly pulse until resembles small peas. Do not overmix.

Place dough into 9-inch pie pan. Place filling in pie pan on dough and press down gently. Pour streusel over top, making sure apples are fully covered. Gently press streusel down.

Bake for 25 minutes on bottom rack. Reduce oven temp to 375°, move pie to middle rack and bake for 30 minutes. Reduce oven temp to 350°. Rotate pie and bake for 20-30 minutes. Pie is done when crust is golden brown and apple juices are bubbling.

Remove from oven and allow to cool.

Drizzle caramel sauce over top of pie. Lightly salt.
